Jose is really our Angel.

After Christmas, we came home to a puddle of water in our hall way, laundry room, garage #1 and garage #2. We put in a claim with our insurance and have been playing this waiting game for them to help us identify where the leak is coming from. They sent their roofing person who only identified three parts of the roof but left with no tarp. We contacted 4 other roofing contractors where one showed up and did not want to take the job but instead referred us to another company. After multiple unreliable roofing contractors, my colleague at work referred me to Roofing Craftsman. Leah was awesome in contacting us back right away. But Jose, he is the lifesaver we did not expect.

Jose came to us the same day we asked for help, and even though it was wet after the rain, he took a quick look at our roof and where the water was gushing out from. He told us the problems was a clogged gutter and no stucko to seal between the gutter and the wall. Mind you, he is a roofing guy, but he saw how desperate we were in stopping the water from going into our home. This kind soul, rolled up his sleeve and helped removed some of the debris and unclogged the pipe the water was unable to go down in. In seconds, all the water that was clogged came out. I tried to give Jose a tip, some money for his troubles but he would not accept it. Honesty, I really felt like crying given the 2 and half week of misery my family and I has gone through to prevent the water from going into our home to no avail.

When he left, I did cry because of his act of kindness and I instantly prayed for the good Lord to bless him, his wife, his family and business to receive an abundance of blessings. I got so emotional because there are not too many stand up professionals out there that come out to be genuine in there desire to help folks who are down. By the way, he was spot on with where the leak came from because ever since he cleared our gutter we have not had anymore water leaks. We still have to fix the gutter, but he is the only roofing guy who pin point this up front and gone above and beyond. All the other roofers just wanted to replace the whole roof without a mention of the gutter.

Once my gutter is fixed, my family and I are determined to have our roof replaced and award Jose and his business for their decency and honesty. I already heard of their wonderful reputation from my colleague for the work they did for them last year, but his character and the way he helped us without accepting a dime from us–this speaks volume! Oh my gosh, the Roofing Craftsmen team are FANTASTIC! From the onsite quote to the work, cleanup, and followup, I felt so well taken care of.  

Jose is completely down-to-earth and straightforward. He listened well to my thoughts, thoroughly answered all questions, and guided me toward making decisions (a combination of TPO and asphalt shingles) that I felt really good about — no pressure at all. His quote was accurate, although it ended up going a bit over because the team showed me how badly the boards over my garage needed to be replaced, and I am grateful they put in that extra time. Believe me, the additional $3k was significantly less than what would have been the cost of repairing further damage, had I ignored it.  

Luis, Jaime, and their team were efficient, polite, and very good natured. You know you’re getting good craftsmanship when everybody on the team is happy and takes pride in their work. In addition to the roofing, I appreciate how Luis and Jaime communicated regarding what they were doing, and they were super polite when they needed my attention. I loved that they cleaned up at the end of every day — not all roofers do that — and Luis did a beautiful job of installing my kitchen sun tunnel.  

Roofing Craftsmen are certainly not the least expensive, but they really are craftsmen, and a high-quality roof is definitely money well spent = money well saved. Worth every penny.

Let me first advise you; I am a California registered architect (since 1973) and an AIA Emeritus member.
For the past 15 years, one of my specialties had been “forensic investigation” of building/construction failures.
I had spent quite some time on a serious leak in my own home and it confounded me to sleepless nights!
I finally swallowed my pride and contacted Jose at Roof Repair Craftsmen.

He arrived with his crew promptly as scheduled and commenced to tear back the tar and gravel membrane from the gutter flange. He showed me evidence of a poor seal along the entire 17′ edge of the concealed copper gutter with free moisture still present under the lifted membrane. I agreed with his finding! His crew torch sealed the flange edge with his roofing membrane and I awaited the next storm with some reservations.
The next sizeable storm came and WOW, 90% of the leaks stopped; at that point, I was very impressed!
Because I wanted to be certain the small remaining leak was not from the concealed copper gutter built into the roof, I spent 5 days minutely inspecting the gutter for leaks before a “call back”.
I called Jose back to address the remaining modest leak and he was not distressed at my “call back”. (unusual for a contractor; believe me!).
He returned (with a cheerful greeting!) with his crew and applied more roofing compound and a membrane at another suspected leaking location. (to address expansion/contraction).

Jose is a very unusual contractor with a cheerful attitude which was uncommon in a “call back” situation. He is very competent and easy to talk to.
I wholeheartedly recommend Roof Repair Craftsmen to investigate and remedy leaks in your roof.

I need to apologize this review is way past due. I cannot say enough about Jose and his team of experts that replaced my roof. We had several companies come out in place a bid, it wasn’t the cheapest bid but Jose stood out the most with his thorough inspection and communication. Now we were worried due to our roof being not only the original roof from the late 60’s but we had a lot of dry rot on top of that it had been double shingles, so we were about what they would find and nervous it would drive the estimate way up but let me tell you they removed all the dry rot without cutting any corners and did it the most cost effective way that stayed within our budget! You can tell that Jose treats his team well and in return they do outstanding work even the inspector complimented their work! Amazing job I love my roof all my neighbors even love it and talked about how fast and efficient they worked! Thanks again Jose! 10 STARS! Jose and his Roofing Craftsmen crew just finished installing my new roof. It was a rather large roof and very complicated in that it has many different styles; such as gables, valleys, hips, dormers and hexagonal gazebo to deal with. I was extremely impressed with every aspect of this job. Great attention to detail by Jose, great craftsmanship demonstrated by the installation crew, excellent cleanup, quick and accurate paperwork handling and great follow through. I reached out to many roofing companies when I bought my first home a month ago and Jose with Roofing Craftsmen was the ONLY company that gave me the quote the day it was promised and it was reasonable! At the time I first reached out, I made the mistake of backing out because I had found another company to do my roof and solar at the same time. I am HUGE on excellent customer service and I ended up backing out again from the other company and reaching back out to Jose. I was almost shy to reach back out because of the fact I basically bailed on him the first time but I am so glad I did. His team came on time both days, were efficient and I could tell they were highly experienced. This was honestly one of the best decisions I have made so far as a first time home buyer. His customer service is top notch and that is what urged me the most to go back to him to have my roof done. LOOK NO FURTHER PEOPLE!! Jose and Roofing Craftsmen is literally IT. Thank you guys!

Jose’s Company, Roofing Craftsmen, saved our home this winter season. They responded to a very leaky roof (7 buckets in our kitchen!) by sending a team of guys to patch it on Christmas Eve – a Sunday – in between rain storms, and returned at the first break in the rain to completely replace our roof in 2 1/2 days! The foreman, Eli Ogle, supervised with Ricardo and Chavez heading the team of 7 guys to get the work finished in between winter storms. They replaced our tar and gravel flat roof with heat reflective TPO latex covering which lasts 30+ years. They reshingled our two peaks with Bark colored shingles – also 30 years – which improves the aesthetics of our home. A great team of guys. We could not recommend them more highly!

We had a slow leak near a vent that was growing larger with every rain storm and another suspected leak. I was having trouble getting any company to call me back, do repair work, or work on composite shingle roofing. This company saved the day. Replied so quickly when we reached out, got the owner out to take a look and estimate within a few days. I was given an estimate for the glaring immediate issues on the spot, and a thoughtful response to the additional issues he noted due to a bad install of the original roof (done by a now out of business company prior to us buying our house). Things were explained in a way that made sense to me and was logical steps to fix the issues. Within a week of the estimate, I got a text asking if the work could be done the next day, and the lead roofer showed up on time and completed the work efficiently and it looks seamless from the street! They provided pictures of the progress which I appreciate since I couldn’t view the work in progress. The owner showing up mid job to check in gave me peace of mind that it was all being done correctly and we were being taken care of. We will be using them for additional repairs, and when the time comes, roof replacement.

Several contractors visited us and asked how old my cement tile roof was, and upon hearing “40 years with several minor to moderate leaks” they al insisted I needed a whole new roof replacement at costs of $60K or more. But not Jose Escalante with Roof Repair Craftsmen! He was the only one who Actually inspected the roof up close – and he said we could do much better with targetted repairs and boy did he sure did deliver!
Excellent work by friendly, highly professional and prompt craftsmen did the trick for a small fraction of the cost! We didn’t fill up some landfill with perfectly good tiles and the whole job took relatively little time to complete.
I emphatically recommend them to anyone in our area (West Contra Costa) or Marin and beyond. Nice clean up too. We are very pleased.

The Leak No One Could Fix — Until We Showed Up

Lisa in San Rafael had a persistent roof leak in one of her buildings in Petaluma. It had been leaking almost since the roof was new! And no one had been able to fix it.

We came along, found the underlying problem, and stopped the leak right away. From there, Lisa had us repair two more of her roofs because we’d proved to her we knew what we are doing. Our roof repairs are effective and permanent!

Why do I care so much? It’s my integrity. My father, who was also a roofer, taught me to be honest and do the job right. I worked next to him every day for years! He was very strict with me, and I’m thankful today that he was.

My high standards of workmanship come from him. And they have served me—and my clients—well.

I purchased a fixer-upper in 2017, and time was running out on my roof. I was impressed with how Jose explained what needed to be done and the process. On Day 1, we discovered a few issues, and he was honest about what needed to be done (sheathing over the planks) vs. esthetics (adding gutters). Not once did he try to upsell.

While my experience with Jose was great, I want to share that his crew was amazing. They were professional and kind. They left the space surrounding my house better than when they arrived. I wish I could hire them to help me complete my to-do list.

I contacted Roofing Craftsman for an inspection that was required by my insurance company. I spoke with Leah who was fantastic and fully understood the urgency. She scheduled Jose to come out the very next day. Jose called and said he could actually come over earlier if that worked for me. With other companies you could wait all day for someone to show up! Early almost never happens. Jose did the inspection and found a few minor issues. His estimate arrived the next morning and it was fair and reasonable for the job. I authorized it and his team arrived on time, in the rain, and worked hard to get everything finished in less than a day. The work was professional, timely and exactly as promised. When the crew left my house it was spotless. This was all in the span of 5 business days. It’s very rare to find any service company as good as Roofing Craftsman. Thanks, Jose and team!

Jose has easily become our favorite person to work with. Recommended to us by a skylight specialist, we first lucked out with getting Jose’s help last year when we bought our house and needed some patch up work on the shingle roof as well as replacement of some cracked skylights over a breezeway.

While in the process of getting an estimate, we had a roof leak pop up & Jose responded immediately and was able to come by the next day to get everything patched up. He then helped with fixing up all of the previously mentioned stuff with the roof, helped us get brand new skylights and install them correctly on our tar & gravel breezeway (unlike what had been on there before), and did an amazing job, delivering just as promised – all with a smile.

Recently, we were redoing our roof deck and realized we should probably get the roof checked out to ensure everything looked good before building the new deck. Jose came through yet again and we are so grateful to have someone like him on our side. He is everything that you hope for – responsive, punctual, friendly, and does fantastic work. I could not recommend him more highly!

I waited a few years to write this review because that’s how long it takes to know if a roofer did a good job.

Jose came and looked at our roof, which was a mess – we shared a roof with a neighbor and it was 1/2 replaced 18 years prior. There were issues with drains and posts which were causing leaks all over.

I got an estimate for a complete re-roof and one for a strategic patch and repair job. Being tight on funds, I took the latter. Jose brought some very experienced workers who re-constructed some parts of the roofing, patched others, and left the area clean. The price was more than fair, I got an estimate right away, and the work started and completed promptly.

So here we are a few years later and the roof is great – five stars.

Jose is also bright, personable, and a straight-shooter. My experience with other roofers over the years has been the opposite. Jose was great and when I need more roofing work he’ll be my first and likely only call.

I found Roofing Craftsman through Angie and it was the best home repair experience of the 40+ years that I’ve lived here. Not only was the owner, Jose Escalante, quick to respond to my initial contact, but every communication that followed was prompt and courteous. He showed up for our appointment on time and gave me a competitively priced quote. When I decided that more work than initially discussed would be needed, he returned to remeasure and revise his quote. We agreed that he would do the work the next week and he and his crew showed up on time. They did an amazing job of protecting my garden and the neighbors’ property as well and their after work cleanup was impeccable. He took photos of the repair work done so I have that information for my files. I have very confidence that his work extended the life of my 20 year old roof for another 5-7 years, thus saving me money in the immediate future.

I’m not sure if those amount to nothing more than urban myths, but I can tell you that there is at least one genuine, kind, helpful and HONEST roofing company out there and that company is Roofing Craftsmen. Jose and his wife Leah made this process the easiest, most streamlined process. They were timely, informative, helpful and knowledgable. Jose arrived on time for our appointments, the job went smoothly, his guys were competent, neat and efficient and the roof turned out beautifully. It’s not the first thing to come to mind, but a new roof is basically a facelift for an older home and we love the way ours turned out. I got three separate bids for this project in the Napa Valley and even though he was not the cheapest, I can happily report that selecting this outfit was absolutely worth every penny! Excellent experience! We had our roof and gutters replaced this summer, and are very satisfied! Jose was super easy to communicate with, and his whole crew was professional and friendly. They cleaned up each day (and even did extra clean up for another contractor who did a small job for us but left our backyard littered with nails). His availability was more open than others and his quote was very reasonable. After the job was done, we had a small issue with our downspout gutter; Jose had someone come out within 24 hours to fix it. Highly recommend.

The best roofing company I have ever used in 30 years. No one else has ever done such an excellent job. Never believed I would find a company who was HONEST and reasonable. I am still overwhelmed by the integrity and kindness of Roofing Craftsmen.

I needed to determine if I had an upstairs bathroom ceiling leak resulting from our heavy rains. After two other local roofing companies didn’t call back after a weeks time, a friend gave me a Roofing Craftsmen business card. He was having roof work done by them. Leah, their representative who took my call, was kind & able to schedule an appointment very soon. Jose got on the roof 2 stories up and then also climbed into my attic space above this bathroom. He found no evidence of water infiltration. Jose was very kind and answered my questions. For his time & efforts, Jose charged me nothing. No charge! How often does this happen? I trust a company that holds the customer uppermost in their business model, even if it means no money for their bottom line.

As a result of the heavy rain these past months, I noticed stains and water bubbles on my bathroom ceiling and the master bedroom. I didn’t know if it was a roof leaking or something to do with my attic that dripped the water down creating those stains and moisture. I got this poster from Roofing Craftsmen that I saved and immediately called. The receptionist Kevin and Leah were so accommodating and scheduled me for a free inspection. Soon enough, Jose called and came to the house, not only did he make a thorough inspection on the roof, but he made an extra mile to go to the attic and checked the interior as well. Our roof is 24 yrs old. We were on a waiting list with the local roofers for about 6 months. I called Craftsman roofing and the owner came out to the house in a few days and gave us a fair estimate. There was a break in the rainy weather and they came out within 2 weeks.
I thought the “demo” would take the entire first day but, with a crew of 6 men on the roof, they took off old the old shingles and started installing the new ones. This included cutting out for for 3 Sun Tunnels we wanted installed.
The roofing crew were quick, very dedicated and seemed to enjoy their job.
They worked well together and were done in 2 Days.
I would recommend them to anyone who needs to re-roof.

We are getting ready to sell our house and there has been a leak. I thought I had repaired it last year, but it was back this year. We needed a new roof and we had 3 companies out to provide us with estimates. Jose was the lowest estimate and he said they could start the work within two weeks depending on how long it took to get the permit. After signing the agreement (on a Friday I believe) I got a call from Jose saying they could start on the following Tuesday. We had a conflict and asked it they could start on Wednesday, and he agreed. The job was completed by Saturday. And there were intermittent times of rain or drizzle.
The crew was friendly and they kept me informed as to what was going on with my roof and when they were leaving. Every day they cleaned up around the house. They used the same product as what the other two companies said they were going to use. Even though they did the job quickly, they didn’t cut corners or skimp on materials. I know Jose would be available if I had the need to call him or ask questions, but there was no need.
I would hire Roofing Craftsmen again without hesitation if I have the need for another roof.

These guys are great! I had a couple leaks that appeared after these storms and José came out and informed me of the condition of my roof. They were able to replace my whole roof and gutters fast. They even fixed a few other problems that were discovered during the replacement. It looks great and no more leaks. Thank you guys so much for completing the work fast and getting it done right!

Jose and his team were incredibly professional, efficient, and communicative, and I would highly recommend them! Jose set expectations and laid out the entire process clearly, let us know what was changing and why (keeping our interests and needs in mind), and did the job within a few days. He was aware of the requirement to install gutter guards in our town, which came in handy when the town inspector came by. His team cleaned our gutters while installing the gutter guards. They installed a new ridge vent for better ventilation and new underlayment. They fixed some of the boards of our roof that were damaged and allowed us to inspect the roof during the process. Our roof looks great now!

Well, just had these folks do a repair on our roof. They tore off some old roof(actually about 3 roofs…lol) and found multiple points of dryrot. They replaced it with all fresh wood, then all the good roofing materials.

They refreshed all the roof vents, and even painted them, including ones they didn’t do, just so they all matched.

The clean up was great, nothing left behind.

I was not looking forward to finding out what the roof issues and cost would be as it was an asphalt shingle roof installed 13 years prior by someone who was not a professional roofer. I was expecting the worst. My fingers were crossed that Jose could do high quality repair – rather than my needing to reroof the entire house.

To my surprise things turned out better than I could have hoped! Jose reported that yes, the gutters were toast but there was only one small area where a few shingles had lifted; why was I having my roof inspected? I presumed there would be more damage on the roof. Not at all he informed us and explained why the roof was in good shape.

Not only did he make it clear that only minor repairs were needed, he provided us with a referral for gutter repair. What a gentleman!

This company is the most responsive I’ve ever had when requesting a quote. As others have said, it is challenging getting a call returned from a roofing contractor in rain-soaked Marin, but Jose responded immediately and came out the next day. Jose is simply an incredibly nice guy and very professional which seems to be a rarity in the roofing business. We had water spots on our ceiling so we called and made an appointment. Jose was right on time, checked our attic and found that the leak was from a vent pipe and not the roof. He even videoed the leaking pipe. If we ever have a roof related problem we know who to call. The best in the business.

Jose came out and gave an honest appraisal of our skylight problem, offering a practical and cost-sensible fix. He accidentally saw a quote from another local company, and told me it wasn’t necessary. Jose was a pleasure to work with. He was always reliable about returning calls and being on time for appointments. He clearly explained why our tar and gravel roof was leaking and what work was necessary to repair it. The work was done and (knock wood) we’ve had no issues since.

I’ll start by giving Jose and his crew five stars. But we’ll have to wait until the rains next winter to see if that rating sticks! Based on all the good reviews here I called Jose, and he promptly showed up, inspected my roof, gave me a price, and agreed to a guarantee. A few days later he and his crew showed up and worked hard for two days. He was easy to work with, on time, the crews wasted no time, and did a great job of containing their mess and cleaning up. I wish all my contractors were this responsive and easy to work with. Jose replaced some dry rotted facia, and gave my aging tar and gravel roof some first aid that will hopefully end two small leaks and keep it going for a few more years. The real test will be next winter but Jose promised he would show up again if there were problems. Given the difficulty of getting the attention of the big roofing companies these days, Jose provides a great alternative for smaller projects.

I usually don't make recommendations, but I suggest that folks consider Roofing Craftsmen. I contacted ~8 companies for quotes, and I thought that Roofing Craftsmen were one of the better companies out there that people should consider. After dealing with a couple of contractors who tried to use high pressure sales tactics, were late for our meeting, gave low ball verbal quotes (never putting their quotes in writing), or had negative reviews or active complaints with the Better Business Bureau it was nice to meet the Roofing Craftsmen Company Owner Jose who came by and gave us a very fair and reasonable quote. We ended up working with another company, but I have no problem recommending that folks consider getting a quote from Jose. I plan to keep his contact information and share it with family and friends that may need roofs in the future.

If I ever have to get a roof in my lifetime again totally using them. Super responsive, made everything super easy.

My roof was leaking. The clowns who did a failed repair last year suddenly and completely forgot how to answer the phone or return messages. So I called Roofing Craftsmen based on Yelp reviews, prepared to be further jaded. But no! Jose and his team completely restored my faith in responsible, responsive tradesmen!

I called them one afternoon and Jose returned my call that evening. OK, just returning my call already put him way ahead of a lot of other roofers in Marin. But it kept getting better: Jose was here at 7am the next morning, and by noon my roof was beautifully repaired. Jose is a great front man, but the whole team is terrific. Highly recommended!

I reached out to Jose after discovering a small leak that was coming from my flat rooftop deck. I had reached out to a few other roofing companies and Jose ended up being the most responsive. He came out to access the damage a few days after I made the call and the leak was fixed within a week. He was super helpful when explaining what he thought might be the issue and even discovered a few other areas on my roof that had been done incorrectly in the past. I could not be more pleased with the job and the customer service I received.

Every team member I interacted was friendly and addressed any questions/concerns I had during the project. It was a messy job due to the nature of the project, but Jose’s team made sure our property was tidy and clean after each day. Professional from the very beginning, Jose and his team worked with us on meeting our budget and finished the job (which included the removal and re-installation of 16 solar panels, something most of the roofers I got quotes from put the burden of responsibility on the homeowner) in the predicted time frame. Communication was responsive before and during job, and issues were resolved quickly. We did have a problem with the replacement of a couple skylights where their contractor didn’t communicate with us and failed to take the measurements so that it pushed back the installation by a month. In that time, the original skylights were misaligned when re-installed and caused a leak the next time it rained, but Jose had his guys out the next day to address the issue by wrapping them in plastic sheeting and duct tape until the custom skylights arrived. Low tech but worked! Overall, I’d give 4.5 stars (I’d knock off 1/2 star for the skylight leak issue and some communication lapses once final payment was made, but really came through in the end) and would highly recommend to others.
